Japan’s Nebu Soku is East End’s Featured Artist for March
Based in Tokyo, house music duo NEBU SOKU have earned both great respect and accolades as one of the leading artists among the “next generation” to emerge from the Japanese underground house music scene. With over ten years experience cutting their teeth in the Tokyo club scene, both Kai Ishikawa and Megumilk have established a strong following for their forward thinking, expansionary DJ sets.
As core creators of one of Tokyo’s longest running house parties – SOLID TOKYO, Nebu Soku have also recently begun to attract attention overseas, with international DJ engagements in cities as diverse as Beijing, Chicago, and at the annual “Freeform” event in Miami’s WMC. With an upcoming “Tokyo” DJ mix CD soon to be released as part of San Francisco’s AMENTI MUSIC “Cities” series, Nebu Soku are now being sought after by promoters in various countries.
Their individual productions and remixes, most notably on AMENTI, have only further solidified their reputation among the global house music underground. Favorites of legendary DJs such as Derrick Carter, Mark Farina, and DJ Heather, Nebu Soku`s productions are known for their consistency, quality, and dance floor appeal.
Outside their work in the club music industry, Nebu Soku have pursued professional careers producing music for Japanese films, TV programs and commercials, as well as releasing music for label giants Avex Japan and Sony.
Lovers of a wide range of music, including jazz, classical, psychedelia, jungle, reggae, and disco, Kai and Megumilk first met over ten years ago at Tokyo’s legendary Liquid Room. Becoming serious in their pursuit of music as life, love, and profession, both joined SolidTokyo where they suported founder Marshall Boardman in building the event into one of the premier house music nights in Asia. With past guests a friends ranging from DJ Heather, Diz, and Johnny Fiasco from Chicago, Olivier Desmet from San Francisco, and Todd Omotani from Vancouver, Nebu Soku & the Solid Tokyo crew have forged strong relationships with house music lovers worldwide.
Today, Kai DJs for several other key events in Tokyo including Nos Def, a mash up event featuring diverse styles such as afrobeat, salsa, reggae, and hiphop. Both Kai and Megumi have also become core members of Love Tempo, a new house music monthly event where they share the bill alongside veterans Marshall Boardman, Jay Zimmerman, and Miles Maeda.
Nebu Soku’s “Destination:Tokyo” will be released on Beatport by Amenti Music on the 15th of March, and will have a worldwide release on April 12 .
