DJ Harvey kickstarts his 2012 Japan tour with a stop at Club Eleven!

It must be a reflection of our age, but we here at the East End just love DJ Harvey. One might argue that he plays all sorts of stuff, and is not centered around house — which is the main theme of this site, but if you’ve ever been to one of his Sarcastic Disco nights, then you will understand why he fits in perfectly. A definite must if you love groovy music. Gates open at 10pm. Y3500 cover.

Musical creators, especially electronic producers and DJ’s, often come up in a certain clique, scene, or dominant genre. Unable to look past the local musical microcosmos they came up in, many often get trapped into an ethic that often surrounds your Detroits, Chicagos, New Yorks, Londons, Tokyos, or other places that have been fabricated influential future music staples around the world.

For DJ_S, a conscious internationalist effort is always put forth to not have crowds anywhere he plays hearing what’s expected of a so-called “Chicago DJ.”

Whilst realizing his own human limitations, DJ_S tries to break that mold. Originally influenced by the older jazz & rock and later the hip-hop of the 1980′s and 90′s, a conscious internationalist effort is always put forth to not have crowds anywhere he plays hearing what’s expected of a so-called “Chicago DJ.”

From his beginnings layering space landings, speeches, and “War of the Worlds” vinyl tracks over tapes of recorded sets from WBMX or ambient oddities to being a Staple Opener DJ at Smartbar, founding the highly acclaimed Space Academy parties in Seoul, and his partnership with Chicago’s White Label Collective, that effort has often paid off with accolades from the uninitiated and established alike.

Stay tuned.

Due on the 4th of May, we give you the lowdown on this highly anticipated, infectious tune!

After causing a stir on YouTube – both through the studio-filmed ‘making of’ video and several clips of DJ Sneak and Phil Weeks playing the track in clubs – Fries & Bridges’ eagerly anticipated ‘Pipe Cleaner’ finally hits the shelves in May.

The Tracks

1. Pipe Cleaner (Original Mix)

2. Pipe Cleaner (Acapella)

3. Pipe Cleaner (Ghetto Mix)

4. Pipe Cleaner (Instrumental Mix)

Featuring the vocals of Hector Moralez (aka Bridges) and the magic production touch of Phil Weeks (aka Fries), ‘Pipe Cleaner’ is another no- holds-barred funky, jacking workout that we’ve come to expect and love from the duo, and is already reaching anthemic sing-a-long status in underground circles. As for what the lyrics are about – we’ll leave that for you to interpret!

Fries & Bridges is the long-standing collaboration between Robsoul boss Phil Weeks and The Factory/Minority Music boss Hector Moralez. The name originates from their original French (Fries) and San Francisco (Bridges) bases, although Hector’s recent European move means they are both now based in Paris. Alongside their own labels Fries & Bridges have graced Vista, Nightshift, Music For Freaks and The W Label amongst others.

Pipe Cleaner will be available on all online music stores on the 4th of May. We will also be featuring Pipe Cleaner in our next episode of the East End Podcast! Stay tuned for that!

Baker Street celebrates 5 years with a 3-part outing aimed at curating the label's past, as well as it's foreseeable future.

Leeds-based Baker Street Recordings has marked itself out as one of the UK’s most reliable deep and tech house imprints in the past 5 years. With praise from all of the major dance music publications and support from the most influential underground DJs, Baker Street have never made a big song and dance about their output, they’ve just kept their heads down and got on with the job of finding and releasing consistently excellent music.

Their 5-year celebratory release personifies the Baker Street ethos perfectly. There’s no fancy titles or clever marketing angles involved – Part 1 looks to the future with the label’s new breed remixing classic tracks, while Part 2 is a retrospective look at the high points of the last half decade. It’s curated by DJs for DJs. The release also comes with a mixed version by label boss Paul Hardy and sidekick McKai, which will be free to download.

The past 5 years have seen Baker Street rise through the ranks as one of the UK’s most exciting underground labels. We have a fantastic loyal fan base who have supported us and all our releases, we’re looking forward to the label evolving over the next few years and giving the Baker Street following some nights to remember! – Paul Hardy

Speaking of the landmark, Paul Hardy commented, “The past 5 years have seen Baker Street rise through the ranks as one of the UK’s most exciting underground labels. We have a fantastic loyal fan base who have supported us and all our releases, we’re looking forward to the label evolving over the next few years and giving the Baker Street following some nights to remember!” The birthday celebrations will be backed by a new series of Baker Street monthly events starting in Leeds in early May.

The 5th Anniversary release showcases the higher profile names Baker Street have worked with like Moodymanc, Jay Shepheard, James Curd, Lee Mortimer and Sasse, alongside up-and-coming producers they have discovered like Matt Prehn, Ben Gomori, Tom Davis and James Barrett. It also includes a remix by Steve Banks of Matt Prehn’s ‘Insomniac Oasis’ – a track sourced through a recent remix competition, which triumphed over 50 competing entries.

Originally founded by Paul Hardy and Jacob Kelly, Baker Street made instant impact with their early vinyl releases before adapting to the changing industry with digital releases that allowed them to experiment more and work with younger producers. Hardy has remained at the helm and now produces tracks with McKai – recent releases have appeared on 3am Recordings, 22 Digit and 1999 Recordings alongside Baker Street.

As for the future, 2012 will see Baker Street getting back to its vinyl roots. Moving forward all releases will once again be released on wax and feature new music from Peckos, Steve Banks, Single Man and Michael McLardy.

Hailing from the backwoods of Tennessee, Wattie Green went from unknown to one of the most recognized names in House Music, virtually overnight. DJing since ’99 and only producing since 2004, this spelunking, multi-instrument playing, swing house producing phenom drops bombs where ever he goes! Wattie’s vinyl and digital releases on Flapjack, Spatula City, Juiced, Knocturnal Emissions, Serial Sickness, Funk Mansion continually top the charts of Stompy and Traxsource. In the new year Wattie has really took off with dates all over the US and his brand new label project with partner Hugh Cleal called Coyote Cuts which will feature limited edition 12″ vinyl. Come check out how he has redefined the swing house sound with his sophisticated nuskool jackin feel as he heads to Club Air in Tokyo this coming April 20, 2012. Also headlining will be Japan’s own Ryota Nozaki along with other great homegrown artists such as Atsushi Matsumura and Kenji Endo, ensuring that Club Air will be rocking ’til the wee hours of the morning. Must not miss! 3000 Yen cover / 2500 with flyer / 2000 for Air members. 10pm onwards!
